Nostalgia: Van Morrison- Moondance

Something that most of you probably don’t know about me is that I, Cody Lee, ballroom dance…quite well actually. During the seventh and eighth grade, my elementary school, James G. Blaine, made it mandatory to participate in some bullshit class where a stuck-up, 50-something-year-old white lady came in and taught us the fundamentals of ballroom. As much as I would love to say that I was opposed to the entire baloney-esque idea of learning to dance, I loved it; we got to skip class to study moving our feet, we got to dress up all fancy, and we got to put on a show at the end of the year (I unconditionally adore performing in front of crowds, by the way).

So, we learned all types of shit like Salsa, Waltz, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, and my absolute favorite, the American Tengo. At the time, my dance partner was Kristen Reyes, some of you might know her from Lane. Well, we were the shit. I mean, I might have stepped on her toes a few times because like any other seventh grader, I was chubby and my short, little, stubby legs had a tough time maneuvering throughout the dance floor. But after awhile, I got pretty good. Not to toot my own horn but I had that girl twirling around like she was on Dancing With The Stars (and obviously, in this case, I was the star).

We ended up putting on a show, and everyone loved it. I wish I had a video to put on here of the whole yadig; you’d get to see me with my awkward ass gelled-up curly hair Tengoing up and down our abnormally small gymnasium. I guess I can accredit my faux “Best Dancer” award in high school to my pre knowledge of ballroom. Strange how things work out huh? Well, if you see me around, ask me to dance and I shall take you to the moon, my love.

This is the song we Tengo’d to.
